General Submissions
The editors of Forge consider creative endeavors of all kinds for inclusion in the journal—art, photography, fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, comics, to name a few. We are also open to serialized works. Our response time varies depending on whatever is going on in our lives at any given moment, but generally falls between three and six months.
Forge publishes issues on a quarterly basis, releasing the contents gradually onto the website. Each issue is headed up by one of our editors, Leif Milliken and Melissa Wolfe. Occasionally we will feature issues edited by a special guest editor. The submissions schedule is as follows:
January issue: 30 September
April issue: 31 December
July issue: 31 March
October issue: 30 June
When submitting to Forge, please send your work as an email attachment to forgejournal@gmail.com. All text must be in .doc or .rtf format; visual submissions should also be in a common format. Make the subject of your email “Poetry Submission” if your submission is poetry or “General Submission” if it’s fiction, etc.
In the event that you are unable to submit via email, please contact us for information on how to submit your works by post.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer monetary compensation for submissions, but there is no limit to the exposure your works will receive online. We do submit works to the major awards open to online journals of our status.
Please indicate if your submission is a Simultaneous Submission!
Cover submissions
Covers are important! Not only do they identify each archived issue, the current issue’s cover will serve as the front door to the site.
Submissions should engage the idea of “Little People Opening Things.” They can be colour, black and white, line art, photography, or whatever mode of conveying visual information you can imagine.
Illustrated capitals
In a creative tradition over 1500 years old, we include illustrated capitals in all prose works, apart from reviews. If you wish to contribute illustrated letters, please send us a sample at forgejournal@gmail.com.
We encourage the same artist to contribute both cover art and illustrated letters, but separate submissions will be considered.
