How To

by Dave Nielsen

Sometimes the instructions

for the most mundane task

can be poetic—

step-by-step guides for how to tie one’s shoes

or boil water;

so too instructions for something

theretofore private,

rare,

or exotic:

dressing the dead, for instance, or dancing a rumba:

unstick the elbow;

now glue the lips.

Point the nose

as if staring into the future.

You can see

how these things might move you.
