Red Jacket

By Heather Truett

She lived in Red Jacket,

West Virginia.

Her boyfriend lived in Speed.

No one knew how they met

or when they made

the scene.

People noticed first

her black-snake hair,

glistening with crystal scales.

She hid her eyes

from their eyes.

He painted cars

with lightning bolts.

They had a daughter,

named her Lenore,

moved into her.

Nobody saw them

leave.
