Vacation. 2

By Wayne F. Burke

2 poached eggs and coffee

the waitress crisp as toast,

efficient, hidden in an iron

uniform and smile.

A newspaper on the counter

read about the latest murder

small tragedies nation-wide

larger ones in the world

across oceans

sending waves to shore.

Wayne F. Burke has published poems in Writers’ Digest, The Blind Man’s Rainbow, Northeast Corridor magazine and elsewhere.  He works as an LPN in a nursing home in the central Vermont area.
