Self-Recovery

By David Brennan

(BRENNAN, WORDSWORTH, RAND & COLERIDGE stand in garbage cans. Each can is spotlit. In the shadows three other figures can be seen.)

*

WORDSWORTH

The garbage can is where your self is thrown.

*

RAND

Espial.

*

WORDSWORTH

For hours at the oblation table

Inventing loss.

*

COLERIDGE

Talk with the boy

Alive minus living.

Bored with his company

Talk to yourself.

*

RAND

Autumn keeps happening

*

WORDSWORTH

To fall away . . .

*

(Spotlights shift to shadow figures, effigies that immediately melt.)
